TourdeNature
Art is created in the minds, both those who create art and those who only enjoy it. I make use of any form that I belive I can realise with my means and that is appropriate to the respective expression. It’s a kind of motivation to break new ground, to leave the beaten track in order to surprise both myself and the viewer. As an observer of the world, as well as the world within me, I create pictures, sound, text that result precisely from this attitude.
Precisely in times of crisis, when we are thrown back on ourselves, we begin to realize, to reflect . Always searching for truths and realities – but there are no absolutes. This is the unsolvable dilemma of modern society, there is no irrefutable right or wrong. All the scientists and world explainers, politicians and persuaders with their subjective, selected information lay claim to the only reality without alternatives. What they cite does not tolerate any contradiction. This absolute reality cannot exist, as reality is not externally determined, at most influenced by the environment. There is no monopoly on reality and its representation. It is and always remains subjective, in perception and in effect. There are as many realities as there are people in the world.
In my work ‘Tour de Nature’, I withdraw myself from outside influence. For several weeks, I travelled through eastern Germany ‘media-free’. The tour did not follow a predetermined route; decisions were made purely intuitively at every crossroads. No destination can ever be as exciting, intense and varied as the journey. The only requirement was not to use any main roads or motorways. I slept in my car in places in the countryside. The creative process as self-awareness and dialogue with myself.
During this time, I took many photos while roaming through nature and silence, which serve as the basis for the works presented here. After selecting the pictures, they went through my ‘digital darkroom’ with the intention of showing an individual, unique view. The viewer takes part, adds a new, own and of course equally correct interpretation to mine. The original becomes more and more blurred. It is about letting go and acceptance, about mental freedom and its autonomy. Every farewell is also the beginning of something new.
I would like to thank the hessische kultur stiftung for the trust they have placed in me and the support they have given me.
All the works shown here are also available as fine art prints.
